The La Cueva Bears will head out on the road to challenge the West Mesa Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in La Cueva's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 19 matches.
Last Wednesday, La Cueva faced Eldorado in a battle between two of the state's top teams. La Cueva walked away with a 75-62 victory over Eldorado. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Cueva to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dylan Chavez, who scored 25 points along with four steals. Chavez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Dyer, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Mesa scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 87-66 margin over Sandia. The win was familiar territory for West Mesa who now have six in a row.
La Cueva has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for West Mesa, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6.
La Cueva came up short against West Mesa in their previous matchup back in January, falling 63-55. Can La Cueva avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
