The Thomas Jefferson Jaguars will square off against the Connellsville Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Thomas Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Thomas Jefferson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Peters Township on Wednesday as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Aubrey Shaffer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Those runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ali Chalovich and Rylee Nemchek did most of the damage at the plate: Chalovich went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Nemchek scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Olivia Stock was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Thomas Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Connellsville started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Bethel Park. They fell just short of the Black Hawks by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday. The loss put an end to the Falcons' undefeated start to the season.
Kalyn Cole made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cali Leichliter, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Thomas Jefferson pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.6 runs this season. As for Connellsville, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Thomas Jefferson was able to grind out a solid victory over Connellsville in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 3-0. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
