Makenna Dunbar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lindsay Stuck was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Kennedy Perry was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Wellsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cuba-Rushford's hitters rose to the challenge against a Jaguars pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.23 runs allowed on Thursday. The Rebels blew past Genesee Valley 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Like Wellsville, Cuba-Rushford also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Bunk. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bunk was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kate Radomski, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Radomski, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Wellsville's record is now 12-2. As for Cuba-Rushford, their record now sits at 5-3.
Cuba-Rushford's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wellsville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. It's a different story for Cuba-Rushford, though, as they've only averaged .348. Will they be able to contain Wellsville's hitters?
Everything went Wellsville's way against Cuba-Rushford in their previous matchup back in April, as Wellsville made off with a 9-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
