Softball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Chico's Winning Streak

Chico dropped their record down to 15-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Pleasant Valley Vikings by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-11 two weeks ago.

Chico saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Murphy, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Pleasant Valley, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Pleasant Valley's side, Alissa Snipes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Snipes has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Lily Thurman was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Carisma Ta'Amai was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chico will venture away from home to challenge Enterprise at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Pleasant Valley, they will head out to face off against Foothill at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
