The Rocky Mount Academy Eagles will face off against the Martin County Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Rocky Mount Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over Harrells Christian Academy on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won three in a row.
Landry Miller and Berkeley Miller were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Miller struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Berkeley struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). At bat, Miller went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Berkeley scored two runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Landry has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Bulluck, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellen Feagans, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Rocky Mount Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Martin County put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Gates County get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Gators' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.
Ty'Hiera Wooten was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Riley Cowan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Martin County pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Rocky Mount Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
