The Willow Glen Rams will face off against the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Willow Glen sitting on four straight victories and Archbishop Mitty on eight.
Willow Glen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Saint Francis 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since April 25th.
Alanna Clincy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Clincy was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Clincy wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Catalina Medina, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Mitty beat Hollister 6-1 on Wednesday.
Kyleigh Mace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alyssa Hahn was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelle Duncan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Archbishop Mitty's victory bumped their record up to 25-3. As for Willow Glen, their win bumped their record up to 22-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Willow Glen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Archbishop Mitty struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
