The Milford Spartans will square off against the Pelham Pythons at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Milford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Milford turned things around against Hollis-Brookline on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Cavaliers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since April 18th.
Ari Wales was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Goldstein, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Pelham nor Souhegan made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Pythons put the hurt on the Sabers with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Pythons have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Caileigh Aguiar was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Pelham let Sophia Forristall and Aubrin Berger run wild. Forristall got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one run, while Berger got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Evelyn Smith, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
The victory made it two in a row for Pelham and bumps their season record up to 4-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Milford, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Milford took their victory against Pelham in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 13-4 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Pythons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
