V Section II recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in V Section II this week, Yuma Catholic beat Antelope 59-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Tonopah Valley lost to Northwest Christian 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jerry Aquilar threw for 83 yards and ran for 58 yards in the defeat.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cameron Haag threw for 331 and 3 touchdowns and Gabe Galvan had 155 yards receiving. On the ground Kaleb Buchholz chipped in 173 yards. Brady Cook helped Arizona Lutheran Academy's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 85 yards.
He was 18-36 with 2 interceptions.
Eric Trevizo was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Coyotes bested Bourgade Catholic. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded 1 fumble and racked up 1 sack.
Buchholz was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 173 yards on 12 carries as Arizona Lutheran Academy defeated the Golden Eagles. Teammate Jesse Zwick added to the ground attack by rushing for 141 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Scott Indahl's team's Haag and Cook have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Haag has thrown for 2,333 yards this season, while Cook has 55 catches for 1,173 yards. Saul Rascon from Bourgade Catholic leads the league in rushing with 1,305 yards.
Buchholz of the the Coyotes is only 80 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 106 carries Buchholz has accumulated 920 yard this year.
As it stands, the Crusaders are in third, while Yuma Catholic is in second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Northwest Christian takes on Rhett Stalllworth's team. Dave Inness' team has allowed 93 points this season, while the Shamrocks have given up 113. The Crusaders allowed 0 points last week as they topped Tonopah Valley.
Arizona Lutheran Academy made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,439 from 3,812. The advance stemmed from a 49-35 victory over Pat Lavin's team last week.
