The Wayne Blue Devils will look to defend their home field on Friday against the O'Neill Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Wayne is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Wayne took a serious blow against Norfolk Catholic, falling 59-7. While losing is never fun, Wayne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Norfolk Catholic is ranked seventh).
Garrett Schultz put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, O'Neill got themselves on the board against West Point-Beemer on Friday, but West Point-Beemer never followed suit. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 28-0 win over the Cadets. The result was nothing new for O'Neill, who have now won three games by 26 points or more so far this season.
O'Neill found their leader in underclassman Porter Mathews, who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Pryor Mathews also helped out with an impressive 85 receiving yards.
O'Neill's win bumped their season record to 4-4 while Wayne's defeat dropped theirs to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Wayne against O'Neill in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 35-2 victory. Will Wayne repeat their success, or does O'Neill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
