The Brantley Bulldogs waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Opp with points to spare, taking the game 47-33. Brantley pushed the score to 44-24 by the end of the third, a deficit Opp cut but never quite recovered from.
Brantley found their leader in underclassman CoCo Stamps, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Stamps is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Grimes, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Opp's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cuba Wiggins, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Wiggins has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dionna Stoudemire, who scored five points.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. This was only their 13th loss (out of 16 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Brantley's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Opp, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-19.
Brantley will head out on the road to face off against Elba at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Elba will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak. As for Opp, they will square off against Pike County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Pike County is ranked 403rd, while Opp is ranked 408th).
