The Wisner-Pilger Gators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stanton. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wisner-Pilger of the 61-41 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Wisner-Pilger lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nevaeh Brown, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Brown hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Emerson Bellar, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Stanton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Hupp, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hupp has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelby Pohlman, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Wisner-Pilger has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Stanton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
Wisner-Pilger will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lyons-Decatur Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. As for Stanton, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Pender at 7:30 p.m. Pender will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
