5A Region 4 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Briarwood Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 5A Region 4. The Lions defeated Carroll Catholic 32-13 earlier in the week.
Homewood extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Talladega, 56-0. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Patriots.
Chilton County's dynamic duo of Chance Britnell and Austin Rossi proved tough for Ramsay to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Britnell threw for 87 yards and one touchdown and Rossi had 65 yards receiving. Austin Johnson helped Chilton County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 22 yards.
Justin Hardy was the most productive running back in the league this week. In five carries, he ran for 131 yards as Homewood beat the Rams. Walter Rutledge also contributed to the rushing game with 101 yards on the ground.
Alfred Maiola provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cavaliers fell to Briarwood Christian. He completed 13 passes for 151 yards and also ran for eight yards. Maiola's favorite target this week was John Tighe, who caught seven passes for 56 yards.
Doug Goodwin's team's Luke Porter and Devonte Wallace have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Porter has thrown for 834 yards this season, while Wallace, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 22 catches for 404 yards. Michael Seaton from Chilton County leads the league in rushing with 967 yards.
Donnie Hand's team's Seaton needs only 33 yards against Calera next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Shelby County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,651 from 10,999. The advance stemmed from a 31-14 victory over the Wildcats last week.
