After flying high against the Richfield Tigers last Thursday, the Hagerman Pirates came back down to earth. Hagerman was outmatched by Camas County on the road and fell 76-45. While losing is never fun, Hagerman can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Camas County is ranked 27th).
Despite the loss, Hagerman saw an underclassman step up: Alex Johnson scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ky Kendall, who scored 14 points.
Camas County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristen Smith, who scored 19 points along with six steals and five assists. Smith hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Tews, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and four steals.
Hagerman has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Camas County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hagerman will challenge Twin Falls Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Twin Falls Christian Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Camas County, they will head out on the road to face off against Wendell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wendell is on a three-game streak of home wins, Camas County a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
