The Whitmer Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Whitmer sitting on three straight wins and Perrysburg on ten.
Whitmer's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Whiteford. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.
Alexis Stoldt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ashley Rodriguez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Raegan Lapoint was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Whitmer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Perrysburg got the win against Findlay on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-0. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Bella Click looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hayley Griggs, who fired off three home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-5. Lilah Hinkleman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Perrysburg pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Whitmer, their record now sits at 5-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Whitmer hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Perrysburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Whitmer might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Perrysburg when the teams last played on April 7th. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
