The Cascade Champions will head out on the road to square off against the Riverdale Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cascade is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Cascade came up short against Columbia Central and fell 7-3.
Cascade saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christina Bilbro, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Kloey Carter also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Riverdale didn't have quite enough to beat Forrest on Thursday and fell 7-5. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Riverdale also got a good showing from Makayla Wilkerson, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Wilkerson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Bella Waldrop made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-4. Lashaundra Fleming was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Even though they lost, Riverdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .368 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Cascade's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Riverdale, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cascade hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Riverdale struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cascade might still be hurting after the 18-4 defeat they got from Riverdale in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can Cascade avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
