Baseball Recap: Hephzibah Victorious

Hephzibah proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Greene County Tigers 12-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rebels have posted since April 18, 2024.

James Renew made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Hephzibah's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Renew was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Four bases. while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Hephzibah got a massive performance out of Joel Mendez, who scored two runs and stole Seven bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Mendez has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Ramos, who scored two runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Hephzibah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hephzibah's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Greene County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Hephzibah wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-2 loss against Westside on the 4th. As for Greene County, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Greene County Tigers face off against Cedar Shoals Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. They are facing Cedar Shoals at the right time seeing as Cedar Shoals is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
