Ontario Christian and Linfield Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. Ontario Christian will take on Linfield Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
While Ontario Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Woodcrest Christian on Thursday as Ontario Christian made off with a 22-8 victory. The Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Miranda Salazar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Salazar was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Demoff, who fired off two home runs, nine RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Karli Cook, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
Ontario Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Linfield Christian came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Titans a 15-0 shutout. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Alexa Ojeda tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Linfield Christian got a big performance out of Celeste Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Charli Calas was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Linfield Christian pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Ontario Christian, their record is now 6-3.
Both Ontario Christian and Linfield Christian just can't seem to miss. Ontario Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Linfield Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ontario Christian might still be hurting after the 17-4 defeat they got from Linfield Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Ontario Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
