After a string of four wins, the Owensboro Red Devils's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Daviess County 57-51. Owensboro was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Daviess County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Owensboro lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Heleina John, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Unique Carter-Swanagan, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Owensboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Daviess County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zoey Beehn, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Lily Hoagland was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Owensboro's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Daviess County, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Owensboro will challenge Hancock County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hancock County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Owensboro is ranked 38th). As for Daviess County, they will head out on the road to take on Union County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
