Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Tupelo Christian Prep

Tupelo Christian Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Strayhorn Mustangs. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by ten runs or more this season.

Jack Decker made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had over his last five matchups. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other pitching news, Reeves Kenney looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit over his last four contests.

Back at the plate, Logan Umfress was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Tupelo Christian Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cullen Hobby, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Tupelo Christian Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Tupelo Christian Prep's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Strayhorn, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tupelo Christian Prep will square off against Baldwyn at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Strayhorn, they will face off against Potts Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
