Baseball Recap: Pungo Christian Academy Extends Winning Streak to Three

While Pungo Christian Academy's win against Crossroads Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Raiders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Colts on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Raiders sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Evan Woolard and Jackson Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Woolard struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Walker pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Woolard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Woolard scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Walker went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Walker a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carr Eagles was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Pungo Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Luke Alligood, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Pungo Christian Academy's record now sits at 7-5. As for Crossroads Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pungo Christian Academy will venture away from home to take on Albemarle School at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Colts have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.22 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Crossroads Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Colts are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
