Softball Recap: King's Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

King's Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Chaminade-Madonna 12-2 on Wednesday. Considering King's Academy has won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caroline Duncan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Duncan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Abigail Vidal and Gracyn Needle did most of the damage at the plate: Vidal went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Needle got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most RBI Vidal has posted since back in March. Lily Rutkowski was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

King's Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaminade-Madonna only posted an OBP of .333.

The win (which was King's Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 19-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chaminade-Madonna, with the loss, they broke their 13-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-7.

Coming up, King's Academy will square off against Oxbridge Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.6, the ThunderWolves 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Chaminade-Madonna does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
