The Moses Lake Mavericks will challenge the Eastmont Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eastmont will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Moses Lake extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Mavericks put the hurt on Othello with a sharp 10-2 win.
Paige Richardson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Morris, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lila Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Moses Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive games.
11 must be Eastmont's lucky number: they beat Eisenhower with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Cadets. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Like Moses Lake, Eastmont also got a great game from a two-way player: Brittany Howe. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Howe was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ellie Holben was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Elizabeth Heinz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Eastmont pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Moses Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Moses Lake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. However, it's not like Eastmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Moses Lake might still be hurting after the 15-4 defeat they got from Eastmont in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Mavericks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
