West Valley recap Sept. 26, 2012
San Jose moved up to 907 from 950 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Valley.
Evergreen Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to second in the league.
Prospect's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Angel Guillen threw for 60 and two touchdowns and Daniel Newson had 41 yards receiving. On the ground Justin Elmensdorp chipped in 50 yards. Christian Nielsen helped Prospect's passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Nico Juarez of the Cougars is the league leader in passing yards this season with 322. He has also thrown one touchdown. On the ground, the Panthers' Raiden Sainz has rushed for 364 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ray Mathies. The Yerba Buena star has six catches for 104 yards.
Two of the top units in West Valley will face off this week when Prospect takes on Yerba Buena. Mike Suarez's team's offense has racked up 67 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Aztec Warriors have allowed only 163 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Overfelt takes on the Bulldogs. The Royals are currently in fifth, while San Jose is in first.
The Bulldogs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,482 from 13,043.
