University has gone 8-2 against Seton Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trailblazers will square off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between University and Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, and University kept the tradition alive. The Trailblazers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Raiders a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Trailblazers in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won five in a row.
Finn Steiner looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Cooper Cammack and Ryan Castetter did most of the damage at the plate: Cammack went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Castetter went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Cammack has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Phillip Jacobs, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Seton Catholic faced off against Liberty Christian on Wednesday. The Cardinals blew past the Lions 11-0. Considering the Cardinals' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Tyson Tremain made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Colin Murray was incredible, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Seton Catholic's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Sam Himes also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Seton Catholic's record is now 4-6. As for University, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. University has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Seton Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went University's way against Seton Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as University made off with an 18-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trailblazers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
