Wake Forest is 1-6 against D.H. Conley since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Cougars will head out to square off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.
D.H. Conley will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Wake Forest extended their winning streak to six on Friday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Vance County. Considering the Cougars have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Faith Moran was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Moran was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maddy Chuyka was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those hits were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Williams, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, while D.H. Conley put up some runs last Monday, the same can't be said for Clayton. The Vikings blew past the Comets 6-0. The Vikings have beaten the Comets the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Comets has come to flipping the script.
The result came thanks to Kendall Howard's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 20 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harper Bradley, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lena Zurface, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
D.H. Conley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Wake Forest's record is now 6-1. As for D.H. Conley, their record now sits at 5-0.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Wake Forest hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like D.H. Conley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
