Softball Recap: Gresham Gets the Win

Gresham saw some tournament action on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Ida B. Wells Guardians.

Despina Seufalemua made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Seufalemua was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Sagapolutele, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reese Gardenhire, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Gresham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ida B. Wells only posted an OBP of .429.

Gresham's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Ida B. Wells, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Gresham will face off against Corvallis at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Corvallis has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something Gresham will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ida B. Wells, they will challenge Liberty at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Ida B. Wells is facing Liberty at the right time seeing as Liberty is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
