Doherty is 0-4 against Cheyenne Mountain since May of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Spartans will challenge the Red-Tailed Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Doherty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Doherty didn't have quite enough to beat Pine Creek and fell 4-3. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cooper Settle was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Doherty: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise.
Cheyenne Mountain let Liberty stack ten runs on them in the third inning on Saturday but luckily Cheyenne Mountain prevailed anyway. The Red-Tailed Hawks skirted past the Lancers 13-11. The victory continues a trend for the Red-Tailed Hawks in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won four in a row.
Nate Glad was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jansen Roberts, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cheyenne Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only managed ten hits.
Doherty's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their record is now 13-7-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Doherty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Cheyenne Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Doherty came up short against Cheyenne Mountain when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
