The Garfield Bulldogs had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Legacy 42-7 at home. The result was nothing new for Garfield, who have now won eight matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Among those leading the charge was Damian Cabrera, who threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt. Cabrera is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Robert sanchez, who rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
Garfield's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-1 Franklin and 10-2 Eagle Rock (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.1% over those games). As for Legacy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.
Garfield will face off against Roosevelt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Roosevelt will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 794th, while Garfield is ranked 215th). As for Legacy, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against South East at 7:00 p.m.
