It was a good run, but the Eaton Reds unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost to Sterling on the road by a decisive 66-51 margin. Eaton found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 20% worse than the opposition.
Ely Madaleno and Lucas Stone certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Madaleno scored 16 points along with four steals, while Stone scored 13 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Madaleno has scored all season. Noah Sprinkle was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals.
Sterling found their leader in underclassman Dayten DiOrio, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals. DiOrio is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Linn, who scored 12 points.
Eaton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Sterling, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eaton will take on Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Eaton is ranked 95th). As for Sterling, they will be playing in front of their home fans against University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully University focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
