Basketball Recap: Angelina Marchesi's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Parkway Christian over Lutheran

After flying high against Roeper last Tuesday, Parkway Christian came back down to earth. The Parkway Christian Eagles came up short against the Lutheran Warriors on Thursday, falling 62-39. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Parkway Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelina Marchesi, who posted 19 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 48.7% of Parkway Christian's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tamerah Peterson was another key player, putting up ten points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Parkway Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Lutheran got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lillian Fremder out in front who went 6 for 10 on her way to 18 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Fremder is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anastasia Johnston, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Parkway Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Lutheran, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Parkway Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 47-9 win against Novi Christian Academy on the 31st. As for Lutheran, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-36 victory against Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy on the 31st.
