The Paul Robeson Huskies pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Northeast on the road by a decisive 69-55 margin. While losing is never fun, Paul Robeson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while Northeast is ranked 94th).
Paul Robeson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sharif Bradley, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Fred Jones, who scored nine points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Darrius Gaeta, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists for Northeast. Another player making a difference was Michael Freeman, who scored ten points along with seven assists.
Paul Robeson bumped their record down to 6-11 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Northeast, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Paul Robeson will be playing in front of their home fans against Simon Gratz at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Simon Gratz's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups. As for Northeast, they will head out on the road to take on Frankford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Frankford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
