Even though the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders scored an imposing 68 points on Thursday, the Wise Pumas still came out on top. Wise rang in the new year with a 77-68 victory over Eleanor Roosevelt. Given Wise's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Eleanor Roosevelt is ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cayden Hargrove continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jayson Frost, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Wise and bumps their season record up to 5-2. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wise will take on Douglass at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday. Douglass knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Wise likes a good challenge. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Laurel at 7:15 p.m.
