The Newark Norsemen lost to the Prairie Central Hawks back in December of 2022, but the Newark Norsemen didn't allow the Prairie Central Hawks the same satisfaction on Thursday. Newark walked away with a 44-35 win over Prairie Central. Given Newark's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Prairie Central is ranked 619th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kelly Wilkey and Lucy Whitfill certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Wilkey scored nine points along with six rebounds, while Whitfill scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Newark now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Prairie Central, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.
Newark's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Bede at 5:30 p.m. on December 26th. Prairie Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Streator at 4:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Streator comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last 14 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
