Spooner is 2-8 against Cumberland since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rails will look to defend their home field against the Beavers at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Spooner has eight straight wins, Cumberland has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Spooner barely beat Chetek-Weyerhaeuser the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rails were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Considering the Rails have won three matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Evan Potaczek made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Spooner got a big performance out of Nic Lindgren, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that Lindgren has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Mason Sobralski, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cumberland came up short against Ashland on Tuesday and fell 5-2.
Like Spooner, Cumberland also got a great game from a two-way player: Sloan McCreary. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. McCreary was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
McCreary wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Schramski, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Spooner's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cumberland, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Spooner couldn't quite get it done against Cumberland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Will the Rails have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
