The Oakman Wildcats came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 62-37 margin over Gordo. Given Oakman's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Gordo is ranked 320th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oakman was led to victory by Trenton Warren and Rick Johnson. Warren scored 19 points along with six rebounds and six blocks, while Johnson scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Oakman's points. Another player making a difference was Bridger Upton, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Oakman's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Gordo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Oakman will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Curry at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. As for Gordo, they will head out on the road to face off against University Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
