Southside Christian and High Point Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Southside Christian Sabres will head out on the road to take on the High Point Academy Grizzlies at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Southside Christian comes in on three and High Point Academy on four.
Last Friday, Southside Christian earned a 56-44 victory over Brashier Middle College Charter. That's two games straight that Southside Christian has won by exactly 12 points.
Southside Christian can attribute much of their success to Syncere Williams, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds, and Josh Hennum, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Duck, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, High Point Academy didn't have too much trouble with St. Joseph's Catholic at home on Tuesday as they won 54-36.
High Point Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jerry Jones, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was DeAnthony Ross, who scored 13 points.
Southside Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for High Point Academy, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Southside Christian have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.2 threes per game. It's a different story for High Point Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 threes per game. Given Southside Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, High Point Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
Southside Christian came up short against High Point Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 51-46. Can Southside Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
