Baseball Recap: Loretto Sets Scoring Season-High Against Richland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Loretto). They put the hurt on the Richland Raiders with a sharp 21-9 win on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 22, 2016, but that streak is no more.

Lucas Laxson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Loretto's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 3-12 when he doesn't). Laxson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Jayden Aaron also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Loretto's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-13. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Richland, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

Coming up, Loretto will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lawrence County at 6:30 p.m. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Richland, they will challenge Hickman County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
