3A Region 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Booneville was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 3A Region 1.
The Blue Devils moved up to 124 from 164 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league.
Alcorn Central's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josh Berry threw for 92 yards and Jason Gurley had 92 yards receiving. On the ground Adam Carter chipped in 77 yards.
Ethan Carmichael made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Bears lost to Corinth. The freshman recorded one fumble.
5-foot-11 quarterback Cody James of Ripley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 729. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, Holly Springs's Tevin Jones has rushed for 769 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Andrew Lambert. The Booneville star has 14 catches for 275 yards.
A big matchup in 3A Region 1 this week will be when Booneville takes on Alcorn Central. Mike Mattox's team is currently in second, while Jeff Boren's team is in fifth.
The Blue Devils made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,111 from 6,816.
