Keira Bertoglio made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Abby Williams and Olivia Eastlake did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Eastlake went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Addison Cook was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Freedom unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Patriot.
Ashleigh Bronowicz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Loudoun County pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Freedom, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Freedom's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Loudoun County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Freedom, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Loudoun County's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Loudoun County took their win against Freedom in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 13-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Captains since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
