The Wendell Trojans will challenge the Melba Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Wendell made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Declo, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Trojans put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 14-7 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Breanna Comstock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jace Olmos was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Mattix, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Olmos wasn't the only one making solid contact: Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Trojans are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Melba suffered their closest loss since May 8, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of New Plymouth by a score of 13-11. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Analyse Durham made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Elle Crimbchin, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Wendell pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.2 runs over those games. As for Melba, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Melba's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wendell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Melba, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Wendell's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wendell took their win against Melba when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 22-5 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
