The Freeport Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Baker Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Freeport came up short against Walton and fell 4-1. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lexi Worrell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Faith McDonald, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, while Baker put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Laurel Hill. The Gators were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Hoboes. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Emily Whiddon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Layla Bendickson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with six RBI and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Michayla Rose was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Baker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Baker is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Freeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both Freeport and Baker just can't seem to miss. The Bulldogs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Baker struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Freeport might still be hurting after the 10-4 loss they got from Baker in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
