After a string of three wins, the Sunset Knights's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against St. Brendan, falling 64-23. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sunset in their matchups with St. Brendan: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Sunset still got an impressive performance from Bianca Pacheco, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Pacheco hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Sunset struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
St. Brendan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaden Castro, who scored 17 points. Castro is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gianna Vindigni, who scored 15 points.
Sunset's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for St. Brendan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunset won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Westminster Christian at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th. St. Brendan's road trip will continue as they head out to face Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 259 points over their last four matchups.
