The Surry Central Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell 39-27 to East Surry. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Surry Central in their matchups with East Surry: they've now lost six in a row.
Surry Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Presley Smith, who scored seven points along with five steals. Mallie Southern was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Surry Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for East Surry, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Surry Central will be playing in front of their home fans against West Wilkes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. West Wilkes is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for East Surry, they will head out on the road to face off against North Wilkes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Wilkes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than East Surry in North Carolina (North Wilkes is ranked 29th, while East Surry is ranked 88th).
