The Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m. Virgin Valley will be strutting in after a victory while Mater Academy East Las Vegas will be coming in after a defeat.
On Thursday, Virgin Valley made easy work of Cristo Rey St. Viator and carried off a 3-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won five in a row.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Virgin Valley took every set by at least 19 points. The final score came out to 25-1, 25-2, 25-6.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy East Las Vegas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Moapa Valley.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas took Moapa Valley into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Virgin Valley will need to focus on slowing down Malcolm Lawrence, one of several Mater Academy East Las Vegas players who made an impact when they last played. He had 15 digs, six aces, and three blocks. Lawrence has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Prince Lupac, who had 15 kills, 12 digs, and two aces.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas' defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Virgin Valley, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's game: Virgin Valley has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Mater Academy East Las Vegas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Virgin Valley took their victory against Mater Academy East Las Vegas in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 3-0 score.
