The Mauldin Mavericks's three-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-40 win over Southside. For Mauldin, this counts as revenge for the 61-29 defeat Southside walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2017.
Mauldin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Braden Hershberger out in front who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Stewart, who scored nine points.
Despite the loss, Southside still got an impressive performance from Shakem Griffin, who scored 12 points. The match was Griffin's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Brendon Mathis was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Mauldin's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Southside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Mauldin's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wade Hampton on December 29, 2023. Wade Hampton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Mauldin is ranked 83rd). Southside won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Boiling Springs at 10:00 a.m. on December 29, 2023. Boiling Springs is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
