1A Tri-Peaks recap September 24, 2013
Buena Vista extended the longest winning streak in 1A Tri-Peaks this week by beating John Mall, 46-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
The Panthers fell to Buena Vista 46-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Luke Harrison was the best receiver in the league this week as Colorado Springs Christian fell to Rye. TJ Stockton helped Colorado Springs Christian's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 27 yards.
Keegan Wentz put up the best numbers through the air as Matt Flavin's team defeated John Mall. He finished with 6 completions for 135 yards. Wentz's favorite target this week was Zakk James, who caught 3 passes for 73 yards.
Cooper Eggleston was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Demons beat Davey Crockett's team. The 6-foot-0 sophomore recorded 2 fumbles.
Sean Daniels was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 176 yards as the Thunderbolts fell to the Thunderbolts. Teammate Trey Zupancic added to the ground attack by rushing for 92 yards.
Leading 1A Tri-Peaks in both passing and receiving yards, Buena Vista's Wentz and James have proven to be a lethal combination. Wentz has thrown for 489 yards this season, while James, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 12 catches for 283 yards. Daniels from Rye leads the league in rushing with 630 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Salida takes on the Demons. As it stands, the Spartans are in third, while Buena Vista is in first.
Custer County and Peyton played the most contested game in the league this week, with Custer County eventually emerging with a 30-27 victory. Casey Nordyke ran for 156 yards during the win.
