Classical got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nevi Wilkey out in front who went 6 of 12 on her way to 18 points and four steals. Wilkey has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Yost, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 17 points and three steals.
Classical smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Marion hadn't done well against Sterling recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way back in December of 2024. Marion secured a 41-37 W over Sterling. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Black Bears are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marion had a senior duo take command as Kenna Wesner went 7 of 12 on her way to 17 points and Erin Regnier posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Kraus, who put up three points in addition to seven boards and three steals.
Classical's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Marion, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Classical has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Marion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
