Marshwood is 8-2 against Cheverus since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Hawks will host the Stags at 11:00 a.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Marshwood not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024 (when they won 29-4). They blew past Falmouth 18-1. The Hawks have beaten the Navigators the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Navigators has come to flipping the script.
Laurali Shisler was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Shisler was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Marshwood let Kelsie Strong and Keira Keaveny run wild. Strong went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Keaveny went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Dorthy Ryan, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Cheverus put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Noble a 17-0 shutout. Fans of the Stags have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
The team relied heavily on Hailey Lamontagne, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cheverus lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Cheverus' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Marshwood, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Marshwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Cheverus, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Marshwood continue to outrun the ball?
Marshwood might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Cheverus when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
