The Bacon County Raiders were the 51-41 winner over the Pelham Hornets when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Bacon County fell 66-54 to the Hornets on Saturday. Bacon County found out winning isn't easy when you make eight fewer threes than your opponent.
Bacon County's loss came despite strong showings from Makayla Thomas and Marnay'jah Reynolds. Thomas dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds, while Reynolds scored 24 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Shaniya Staten was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Truth Wimberly was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with five assists for Pelham. The team also got some help courtesy of Sariyah Chester, who scored 14 points.
Bacon County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Pelham, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Bacon County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Pelham will be playing at home against the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Randolph-Clay is ranked 244th, while the Hornets are ranked 259th).
