Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McCutcheon). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-16 win over the Western Boone Stars on Saturday. With that victory, the Mavericks brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Jon Riley was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of McCutcheon's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Sam Swank also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.

McCutcheon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

McCutcheon's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Western Boone, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.

Looking ahead, McCutcheon will host Greenfield-Central at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Western Boone, they will challenge Frankfort at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
